Treatment of Breast Cancer - Surgery
|
|
Breast surgery and radiation therapy can be considered as the most common treatments for the local control of breast cancer in which cancer cells are not biologically able of migrating from the breast. Basically , there are two types of surgery in the treatment of breast cancer, that are lumpectomy and mastectomy. Long term survival rates were proven to be equal for both types of surgery based on the randomized studies stated in National Institute Booklet “Surgery Choices for Women with Early-Stage Breast Cancer”. In addition, the risk of recurrence(repetition ) is slightly higher for lumpectomy compared to mastectomy.
