Treatment of Breast Cancer - Quarantectomy
|
|
Quarantectomy is another breast-conserving surgery which implies “ removing a quarter”. This surgery is usually performed on women whose primary tumour is so large that a small lumpectomy is not possible. A larger area of the breast surrounding the tumour, from the nipple all the way to the top edge of the breast is removed. The amount of breast tissue removed is wider and deeper than in a lumpectomy. Sometimes, the skin that covers the tumour is also removed. In breast-conserving surgery, general anaesthesia ,spinal block, or intravenous sedation with local anaesthesia is used.
